In Le Monde of 31 March 2026, Philippe Dagen devotes an article to the exhibition in which the MoCo (Montpellier Contemporain) traces the history of art schools, their teachers and their students. The critic considers the idea judicious at a time when many fine art schools are going through political and financial difficulties.
He recalls that the museum and the Montpellier school of fine arts belong to the same institution, directed by Numa Hambursin, and that the school goes back to François-Xavier Fabre (1766-1837), a pupil of David, who, on returning to his native city in 1825, founded the museum that bears his name.
