Trio gagnant

The article

In its issue 187 (April 2025), Transfuge publishes in its “Art galerie” section a double page by Aude de Bourbon Parme entitled “Trio gagnant”. The article surveys three exhibitions at Galerie Lelong in Paris, devoted to Jean Dubuffet, Hyunsun Jeon and Barthélémy Toguo.

The author first returns to the Villa Falbala, which Jean Dubuffet built between 1971 and 1973 in Périgny-sur-Yerres, and to the fiftieth anniversary of the Fondation Dubuffet, which is producing new editions from the original models. On rue de Téhéran, Galerie Lelong presents the Banc-salon and the Cerfs-volants, produced with Pace Gallery; on avenue Matignon, it shows watercolours by the Korean artist Hyunsun Jeon, in which geometric forms in bold colours compose dreamlike images.

Finally, the gallery publishes Roots, a series of linocuts by Barthélémy Toguo depicting root-men of plants and trees. The article connects this presentation to 20 000 lieues sous les mers, the exhibition that Galerie Nathan Chiche is organising with Galerie Lelong in the Jean Prouvé school in Vantoux, designed by Jean Prouvé and his brother, the architect Henri Prouvé. The exhibition focuses on the artist's relationship with the sea: giant bronze fish circling an amphora, a makeshift boat recalling crossings of the Mediterranean, paintings, ceramics and lithographs. Barthélémy Toguo explains that the seabed remains a place of mystery for him.
