Bernardo Di Battista prend la tête de la galerie Nathan Chiche

La Gazette Drouot announces the appointment of Bernardo Di Battista as director of Galerie Nathan Chiche, which has just opened in Vantoux, on the outskirts of Metz, in the former demountable prototype school designed by Jean Prouvé in 1951. Signed online by Vanessa Schmitz-Grucker, this short item traces the career of the new director.

A graduate in art history and criticism from La Sapienza University in Rome, Bernardo Di Battista began in the studios of Maurizio Mochetti and Giuseppe Penone, then worked between Rome and Turin, from 2000 to 2008, for the Fondazione Giuliani and the Lorcan O'Neill and Franco Noero galleries. Arriving in Paris in 2009, he worked with the Campoli Presti and Perrotin galleries and with Xavier Veilhan's studio, then, from 2015 to 2018, with Galleria Continua in France and Magazzino in Italy.

Recruited in October 2018 by Emma Lavigne to the Centre Pompidou-Metz, he founded the Vis-à-Vis gallery there in January 2021. The article highlights his attachment to the Italian scene, to Arte Povera in particular, and to North American conceptual art, as well as his knowledge of the Metz art world, which led Nathan and Patricia Chicheportiche to entrust him with their new space. Finally, it recalls that the inaugural exhibition, devoted to Jean-Pierre Raynaud (born in 1939), is on view until 26 August.
