Vantoux : l’ancienne école Prouvé transformée en galerie d’art, un artiste plasticien mondialement connu pour l’inauguration

The online counterpart of the report published in the print edition of 28 April 2024, this article by Lisa Lagrange on the website of Le Républicain Lorrain has a different title, which highlights the visit of an artist of worldwide renown. It opens with a slideshow of twelve photographs by Gilles Wirtz, including a view of the school on the heights of Vantoux.

The text reproduced in the press review condenses the announcement: the school built by the brothers Jean and Henri Prouvé, listed as a historic monument since 2001, becomes an art gallery from 16 May. Nathan Chicheportiche, who co-founded it with his mother, intends to present artists there whose work responds to that of the architect and designer. For the first exhibition, Jean-Pierre Raynaud has installed several of the faience tiles that made his reputation.

The article stresses that the artist, aged 84 and represented in the permanent collections of the Centre Pompidou, MoMA and the Guggenheim Bilbao, usually declines invitations, but that he immediately agreed to come to Vantoux out of admiration for Prouvé, and that he will attend the opening. Compared with the print version, this passage adds the name of Henri Prouvé and the date on which the building was listed.
